I recently used Unicorn Fiber scour to wash my first fleece and it worked great! Love that stuff!
what kind of fleece did you wash?
I haven’t used it yet but I do have a big bag of raw baby alpaca that needs washing! This is a great giveaway.

And the prize alpaca fleece is so clean, it barely looks like it needs to be washed. So shiny and wonderful crimp. Some of the ones I saw at the farm were very merino-like.
I have some Unicorn Fiber products ready to use when I have the umph to pull out the dirty fleeces and tackle them. I’m hoping to have results as awesome as I’ve read about other people having!
I’ve been wanting to wash some fleece this week also, but it’s too darn hot! If it goes down about 10 degrees I will do the rest of my Coopworth Lamb.
I already have some Unicorn Fibre Products that I won in another drawing, and I’m very excited to try them out as soon as I get some raw fleece to try them out on! I feel awfully greedy entering this drawing too, but the extras in the 1st and 2nd prize are just too much of a lure not to try for them! Maybe if I won I could gift my extra bottles to another lucky RNG winner.
You may want to think about keeping the Unicorn products for yourself. Once you try it, you’ll be able to decide. But sharing is nice too. 🙂
Well, *don’t* put me in the drawing because I’ve got my supply of Unicorn products here, and I wrote the book, so the point is to share the joy, but I had to write a comment to say that Power Scour saved my sanity (and lowered my utility bills) when I was washing fibers for the book, and now I’m also using Fibre Wash and Fibre Rinse and finding that they’re similarly amazing in their own ways.

I haven’t used any Unicorn products – yet – as I am strictly a knitter at the moment. I am seriously contemplating taking the plunge to learn spinning, however, and this prize package would certainly provide a powerful incentive to start! There’s so much to learn.
Don’t forget Unicorn Fibre Wash and Rinse for your finished pieces, for blocking and washing. Also, they work with all of your fine washables. Melanie in the Unicorn office got a red wine stain out of white clothing with the Power Scour, and I can vouch that it gets greasy food stains out of clothing–I eat (and spill) in the car a lot when I’m on yarn sales trips!
I have the samples to try, but my pile of greasy Lincoln-Merino (Lincarino?) fleece will use that up in a minute! I need the giant economy sizes………………..
It just takes a little bit to work…you can use less than the bottle recommends and experiment. Just like you don’t have to use as much laundry detergent as the directions say to get your clothes clean most of the time. Now, who told me that? Oh yeah, my mom! Anyway, if you win you can at least get a start on the fleeces with a 4 oz Power Scour, and later you can get the 16 oz or gallon size. 🙂

I know, can you believe how cute baby alpacas are? Using the Fibre Wash and Rinse to finish your handspun skeins will help them to behave more yarnlike! Also, practice, practice, practice.
I use Unicorn Power Scour for cleaning fleece, I am pleased at how clean and soft the fiber comes and my hands stay soft and irritant free!
I never thought about the hand irritation factor, but it’s true that the products are effective yet gentle. I even clean my sleeping mask with Fibre Wash and rinse, and then it goes right back on my face.
I have never used Unicorn products but I am hearing good things so I would love to try them.I haven’t purchased unprocessed fiber because I didn’t know what to use on it. I am in the process of spinning a friend’s Siberian Husky undercoat “in the grease”. Would it work on it? With 4 kids I could certainly use something to remove stains on clothing.
Depending how dirty the Husky is, you might benefit from the Power Scour for that, and it is a nice all-purpose degreaser!
True that Power Scour might be appropriate, but I’m guessing you could get away with Fibre Wash on that husky undercoat. Whichever is handiest. Power Scour is definitely called for when grease is involved. They’re both gentle on the fibers, so that’s not a concern.
I haven’t used any of the products yet, but I just sheared my alpacas and will be washing, carding, and spinning for the first time. I’m so excited to get started!
The Fibre Rinse is nice to use when you are handcarding, and will cut down on static for the whole process.

This is the first I’ve heard about Unicorn products, but they sound like just what I need to finish processing the last of the raw mohair I have from my angora goats. What a cool giveaway!

Hi! Landed here from the link in the “We Love North American Alpaca” group on Ravelry and wanted to say that I’ve not heard of Unicorn products, but will be sure to look for them now. I work with a good deal of raw alpaca and all of the products…the Unicorn Power Scour, Fibre Wash, and Fibre Rinse sound like they are worth trying! Thanks for the heads up!
So many “alpaca people” are big fans of the products. You can also get free samples on the Unicorn Fibre Website, just in case you don’t end up winning a prize.
You might be interested in the fact that the Unicorn Fibre products were formulated initially for alpaca fiber. My sister breeds alpacas in Virginia (www.marysalpaca.com) and, every time her alpaca fiber went out for scouring & processing, the finished result was disappointing…. When there’s a need…..
I used Unicorn Fibre wash the first time I ever dyed yarn, and I love it! The yarn is clean and smells really lovely!

I’ve never used any of these products before, but I am just starting to learn how to block my knit items. I also purchased a drop spindle to teach myself how to hand spin, but I have yet to fully accomplish the art of it! Such a wonderful giveaway!

I’ve never tried any Unicorn products, but would be ecstatic to finally find a product that would save me much wasted time and effort in trying to get my fleeces clean, degreased and bright!
All of the products perform great, and they are specifically formulated for animal fibers.
I didn’t mention how my shift to these cleansers also saved my back. Because they work in lower temperatures, I didn’t have to heat water on the stove and haul it to the washing tub (i.e., bathtub) to bump the temperatures up. I now use straight tap water, and I’ve even lowered the temp on the water heater.
Do make sure that you don’t let the grease dissolve and then settle back onto the fiber (because the water cools off too much). There’s a chemical change that takes place when the grease is dissolved off (regardless of cleaning aid) and the redeposited stuff is stickier than the original grease was. I usually soak 15 to 20 minutes in each bath, and the water is still pleasantly warm when I change to the next bath.
I haven’t used Unicorn Fibre products yet, but the Power Scour sounds like it would be great for my household. I also do a lot of blocking for crocheting and knitting.
totally! I have used a lot of wool wash products, and Unicorn really is so excellent.
I recently purchased 3 alpaca fleece, I used some shampoo to wash half of a cria fleece, and while it worked and was nice and gentle. Forever it took to rinse out, I have been checking out washes and rinces specifically with fleece in mind, and it looks like Unicorn Fibers is a pretty good product. So I have been saving again for my next fiber budget, and actually have planned on purchasing some, to try out.
Maybe you’ll win some! Shampoos and other detergents that are not made specifically to be rinsed out of animal fiber are going to be way too sudsy, making your effort, time, and water and energy usage more than what they could be.
This would be a wonderful way to try the Unicorn products! I just started processing my own fleece, so far I’ve washed two using Dawn. And who doesn’t love Alpaca!

I recently became a believer in Unicorn Power Scour! I ordered the free samples and after once use I knew this was the way I wanted to wash all my fleeces from now on. Great product, thanks for making one of my least favorite tasks quick, simple, and VERY effective!

I’m a new spinner and just getting into processing raw fleeces (alpaca!) and I love it. Haven’t tried the products yet but definitely looking forward to checking them out since I hear a lot about ’em.
They really are great for the fleeces and also for finishing skeins of your handspun.
I used a packet of the scour soap on a knitted item which was particularly itchy (an alpaca/cotton blend, with a lot of the alpaca guardhairs) and it worked great!
Great use of the product! I always forget that it can really take the prickle factor out of fibers that are more scratchy than we would like.
I have not used any of the washes yet but I did receive a trail pack. Once I get more fleece that needs to be washed I can try it out! I can’t wait!

I’ve only recently heard about Unicorn products, and would love to try them. I’m a little hesitant about washing my handknits because I”ve never liked the results, so I let them go too long. I need to find a product I can be confident in.
I hardly used to wash my handknits either, until I started blocking more projects, then I realized it’s not that different and I’ve gotten better at doing it.

FYI, professional oriental rug cleaning people are using Fibre Wash & Fibre Rinse “with astounding results” on wool and silk rugs. They tell us that they save Power Scour for the rugs that haven’t been cleaned in twenty years!
Then there are the new Mom’s out there that have discovered the easiest and safest way to wash baby knits and soakers (the knitted covering for diapers). It figures that, since the products are formulated to rid odors and protein-based urine, etc. and dirt from animal fiber, the same thing will hold true for a dirty diaper/soaker. To accomplish this effectively — and care for the delicate fiber cuticle, is what we’re all about.

Is it possible to still get a small sample. I have alpacas and would use it to wash there fleece when I prep it to spin
